The 2007 International Sled Dog Symposium is just around the corner and that means ADMA's most important fundraiser is fast approaching! Our annual auction will take place Saturday, October 20, right in the Pioneer Park Civic Center in Fairbanks.
The first thing we need for this event to be successful is a fantastic selection of items for the silent and outcry auctions. We need your help to reach this goal! If you or your business can donate an item or service, please fill out a donation form [Word document] and e-mail it back to me. Or, you can ask the owner of the business where you work for a donation. (You can hand out the auction request letter [Word document] or use it as a guide.)
Auction donations don't have to be mushing-related. Tools, sporting goods, electronics, handcrafted items, and gift certificates for restaurants, groceries, fuel, oil changes, and water would all be welcome additions to the auction.
Even if you don't own or have a connection to a business, there are MANY other ways you can contribute and support our great club. Here are just a few ideas:
- You can sign up to contact a business for a donation (please coordinate with me first so we don't have more than one person soliciting the same business). I have a list of past and potential donors if you need ideas.
- Baked goods are usually a HUGE hit at auctions, so if you have a yummy recipe for pie, cheesecake, cookies, brownies, or cake, please consider hitting the kitchen before the auction and tempting our wallets with one or more of your creations!
- You can donate a personal service, such as a few days of pet sitting, some handyman service, or a ride to and/or from the airport. Get creative! Of course, you can set restrictions on your donation, such as limiting the airport shuttle service to the Fairbanks area.
- If you are a champion musher with a stud dog whose genes are in high demand, a stud fee would make a lovely donation (please note that we no longer accept puppies as auction items). If you are an open class musher who is willing to let another musher go for a training run on a second sled behind you and a big string of your dogs, I know a number of folks who would bid on that joy ride, including yours truly.
- You can actually BUY an item to donate to the auction (think of something fun that will really get a bidding war going), or donate something you bought or received as a gift, but have never used. All we ask is that it be a new item that you think will be of interest to bidders (in other words, no unloading of crappy reject gifts from Aunt Marge). This IS a fundraiser, after all!
If you'd like to help or have questions, please e-mail me at ndewitt@alaskabird.org or arct1c_warbler@yahoo.com, or call 907-457-1420.
Thank you for all you do to support the Alaska Dog Mushers Association and the sport of sled dog racing. I hope to see you at the symposium and auction!

Auction Coordinator
P.S. I realize many of you already donate something to the auction every year. Let me know if you plan to donate again this year, and I won't bother you with a printed request letter unless you want one. Please note that I need your donation form by October 15 to list your business and items on the auction web site and to prepare bid forms in time for the auction.
