ADMA to hold Challenge Series Race #3 January 19, 2003

Fairbanks, Alaska—ADMA will hold its Challenge Series Race #3 on Sunday, January 19, at the Jeff Studdert race track on Farmers Loop Road in Fairbanks. Classes will include 1-dog, 2-dog, and 3-dog skijoring; and 4-dog, 6-dog, 8-dog, and Open (unlimited).

Sign up for the race will be held at the Mushers' Hall on Farmers Loop on Wednesday, January 15, from 7:00-7:30 p.m. Note that this is a half hour earlier than last week.

The 8-dog and Open classes will be running increased distances for this race. The distances for each class on January 19th are:

Skijoring (1, 2, 3-dog): 4.5 miles
4-dog: 4.5 miles
6-dog: 5.9 miles
8-dog: 10.6 miles
Open: to be determined 13.6 miles

The AARP-sponsored division for older 4-dog teams will again be run in conjunction with the 4-dog class. You can designate your 4-dog team as an AARP team at the draw or the day of the race.

If you can't make the Wednesday meeting, you can either have someone sign you up and pay your entry fee, or you can phone in your entry in advance with a credit card. You must buy or renew your membership to race, and no entries will be accepted without an entry fee.

This race is the second of four races in the ADMA Challenge Series. Points in each race are awarded as follows: 1st place - 5 points; 2nd place - 4 points; 3rd place - 3 points; 4th place - 2 points; 5th place and all finishers - 1 point. For each class, the dog driver with the most cumulative points for all the Challenge Series races this season is awarded the Points Champion trophy.

Last Sunday was the first week that trail conditions were adequate for racing, and ADMA held its first race, Challenge Series Race #2, postponed since December 15. Challenge Series Race #1 was cancelled due to poor trail conditions. Challenge Series Race #4 has been rescheduled for January 26th, and Race #5 will be held February 2.

The complete schedule of races is available on our website at sleddog.org.
