Challenge Series Race #4 sponsored by Annamaet Petfoods and Grubstake Feed, January 26, 2003

Fairbanks, Alaska—ADMA will hold its Challenge Series Race #4, sponsored by Annamaet Petfoods and Grubstake Feed, on Sunday, January 26, at the Jeff Studdert race track on Farmers Loop Road in Fairbanks. Classes will include 1-dog, 2-dog, and 3-dog skijoring; and 4-dog, 6-dog, 8-dog, and Open (unlimited). The race starts at 10:30 a.m.

Sign up for the race will be held at the Mushers' Hall on Farmers Loop on Wednesday, January 22, from 7:00-7:30 p.m.

Competitors will by vying for gift certificates from Annamaet Petfoods. Details will be available by Wednesday.

All classes except the 8-dog will be running increased distances for this race. The distances for each class are:

Skijoring (1, 2, 3-dog): 5.9 miles
4-dog: 5.9 miles
6-dog: 7.7 miles
8-dog: 10.6 miles
Open: 15.6 miles

The AARP-sponsored division for older 4-dog teams will again be run in conjunction with the 4-dog class. You can designate your 4-dog team as an AARP team at the draw or the day of the race.

If you can't make the Wednesday meeting, you can either have someone sign you up and pay your entry fee, or you can phone in your entry in advance with a credit card (see related links below). You must buy or renew your membership to race, and no entries will be accepted without an entry fee.

For those training on the ADMA trails or wanting to support our trail grooming efforts, annual trail passes are available for sale for $50 at the draw or the race, or by phone.

This race is the third of four races in the ADMA Challenge Series (the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner incorrectly printed in a story on Monday that this race would be the last Challenge Series race). Points in each race are awarded as follows: 1st place - 5 points; 2nd place - 4 points; 3rd place - 3 points; 4th place - 2 points; 5th place and all finishers - 1 point. For each class, the dog driver with the most cumulative points for all the Challenge Series races this season is awarded the Points Champion trophy.

The current points leaders are:

  • 3-dog skijor: Carol Kleckner and Cindy Salmon (tied)
  • 2-dog skijor: Steven Sheehy and Dave Partee (tied)
  • 1-dog skijor: Chris Terzi and Mike Malvick (tied)
  • 4-dog: Scott Campbell and Carol Kleckner (tied)
  • 6-dog: Carol Kleckner
  • 8-dog: Lynn Orbison
  • Open: Stacy Church

Challenge Series Race #5, sponsored by Prospector Outfitter, will be held February 2.
