ADMA Gold Run Sled Dog Race to Get Underway this Saturday

Fairbanks—ADMA will be hosting its first championship race of the season, the Gold Run, this weekend at the Jeff Studdert race grounds off Farmers Loop Road in Fairbanks. The race starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the 2-dog skijoring class.

The Gold Run, which offers a purse of $6900, is sponsored by the Alaska Dog Mushers Association, Wells Fargo Bank, Annamaet Petfoods, Trail King Kennel sled repairs, and Prospector Outfitters.

This exciting event includes lots of dog-action, a variety of food, and fun for the whole family. Door prizes will be given away throughout the day, and the Mushers Hall will be open when you need to warm up. The race usually wraps up around 3 p.m., depending on the number of teams entered.

Skijorers will be competing in a 2-dog skijor class, and mushers in 6- and 10-dog classes. Sign up and draw for the race will be on Friday, 7 p.m., at the Dog Mushers Hall on Farmers Loop, and includes a dessert potluck and door prizes.

Skijorers will race 6 miles each of two days, while the 6-dog class will race almost 8 miles each day, and the 10-dog class 12 miles.

The pay out for the 10-dog class is $3500 cash to be divided among the top 10 finishers (see the race rules on the ADMA website for the breakdown formula). The 6-dog mushers will be competing for $2000, and the skijorers will divide $500. In addition, $900 in gift certificates for Prospector Outfitters and Trail King Kennel sled repairs will be given out as prizes for fast day times.

Race signup is from 7–7:45 p.m. on Friday. Entry fees, which cover both days of racing, are as follows: Skijoring - $24, 6-dog - $47, 10-dog - $67. Racers who sign up after the Friday sign up, or on race day, must pay an additional $20 post-entry fee. The post-entry deadline is 30 minutes before the scheduled start of the heat on Saturday, and all teams must be checked in and have received their bibs 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start of each day's heat.

The Gold Run (as well as the Limited and Open North American Championships) is an ISDRA sanctioned race. If you become a member of ISDRA ($35 for individuals, $15 for additional family members), you may be eligible for regional or national standings and awards based on your race results.
