ADMA hires executive director
The Alaska Dog Mushers Association of Fairbanks, Alaska, is pleased to announce the hiring of Jonnelle Roos as the association's executive director.
Jonni, as she's known to her friends, comes to ADMA with an extensive background in association management. Previously, she was with the Yukon Quest 1,000 Mile Sled Dog Race, where she served for three years as assistant director, helping to create and maintain programs that emphasized membership development, volunteer recognition, event coordination, sponsorship and fundraising. Prior to her association with the Yukon Quest, Roos worked as a real estate broker and property manager for Fairbanks Realty.
Roos' hire marks the first time ADMA has had a full-time executive director. "This will have an immediate impact on our ability to improve our community and business relations," said ADMA president Dave Partee. "Our volunteers will continue to put on world-class sprint races every year, and now we can be more responsive to our business and community partners, and increase our promotional efforts to bring mushers to Fairbanks every winter."
Although originally from Texas and New Mexico, Roos feels right at home in Alaska. She has lived in Fairbanks for four years, and cites dog mushing as the reason she was originally attracted to Alaska. "As a youngster, I loved reading about adventures in the wild North," she said. "Being the executive director of the premiere sprint sled dog organization in the world is a dream come true."
Roos has established an office in the Mushers Hall at the Jeff Studdert Racegrounds in Fairbanks, which will generally be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can contact her at (907) 457-MUSH, or by email at adma@sleddog.org.
The Alaska Dog Mushers Association, Inc., founded in 1948, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of the sport of sprint sled dog racing and the proper care, training and treatment of sled dogs. ADMA conducts the annual Open North American Championship, the oldest continuously run dog sled race in the world. ADMA is known for its world-class trails and award-winning races.
