GCI ANNOUNCES TITLE SPONSORSHIP OF OPEN NORTH AMERICAN SLED DOG RACE IN FAIRBANKS
GCI to Sponsor ONAC for the Next Three Years
FAIRBANKS- In a decision that reflects GCI’s continued commitment to premier Alaskan events, the company announced today it has signed on as the new signature sponsor of the GCI Open North American Sled Dog Race, (ONAC), the oldest continuously running sled dog race of any kind in the world.
The agreement, reached between race organizers and GCI, is good for three years at $25,000 per year. The sponsored amount will be used toward a total race purse of $35,000 in 2005.
“We are happy that GCI has stepped up to be the signature sponsor for the Open North American Championship, especially for this much heralded 60 th anniversary race,” said Jonni Roos, executive director of the Alaska Dog Mushers Association in Fairbanks.” We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with GCI, and are delighted they will be hosting this very important Fairbanks community event for many years to come.”

The GCI Open North American Championship is the premier sled dog sprint race in the world, attracting top sprint mushers from the U.S., Canada, Europe and Japan. The race is run from downtown Fairbanks, with heats of 20 miles the first two days, and a 30-mile heat on the final day. The three-day race begins on Fri., March 18, and there will be many events coinciding with the race to mark its 60-year anniversary.
