Just want to let you all know, with a BIG Thank you to AARP Alaska for their sponsorship again this year, that the AARP Division in the Annamaet Challenge Series 4 dog class is on again for the 2011-2012 season. The goal of AARP Division Racing is to keep senior mushers and dogs remaining active and engaged, doing something we love. We not only spend quality time with our dogs, who often are experienced racers themselves and love to be racing again, but we have fun at a dynamic sport that occupies a very unique place in the world. We invite mushers who are new to the sport, young or young at heart, to participate and learn from the experienced dogs and mushers and break into racing in a more relaxed venue, while having fun with fellow Alaskans who will support your new experience. Contact Edie Forest at standingbear@mosquitonet.com with questions.
The Alaska Dog Mushers Association is holding their annual fundraising auction and membership drive on Friday, Nov. 18th at 6:00 pm. This social event is an open house at the Mushers Hall on Farmers Loop Road with food and drink provided. The 1st ADMA general membership meeting originally scheduled on Oct. 19th has been rescheduled for Oct. 27th starting with a potluck dinner at 6:30 pm.
A very big thank you to Annamaet Pet Foods and Rob & Mary Jo Downey for
their continued support of ADMA and our race season. We will be getting
the Awesome handmade plates for the Challenge Series points champions, as
well as the cash donation that they make!
THANK YOU ANNAMAET PET FOODS!
Hello ADMA members and supporters,
There has been no contact from the club since last spring, so it is time to start thinking about our Fairbanks area sprint dog club. We are in need of a vice-president, as long time volunteer Dave Partee has resigned (thank you Dave for your service over the years). This is a one year seat and is appointed by the board, so if you are interested or know someone who is please contact a board member (Shannon Erhart, Ed Arobio, Ami Gjestson, Paul Gregory, Marie Wynn, Matt Thompson, Donna Thompson, or Marya Lewanski).
*First of all the first general membership meeting will be Wednesday October 19th, 2011 starting at 6:30pm with a potluck, there may a Chinese auction or some other fun small fundraiser happening that night, so stay tuned. We the board would like to have the second one in November, and then the third one in December for our first draw (weather permitting)*
Agenda items to be discussed:
What directions is the club going? What do you members want to do.
Potential races in jeopardy
Trail
Fundraising
Any By-law or rules changes need to be proposed.
Possibility of doing some sort of joint venture with the Fairbanks Junior Dog Mushers, Inc, or bringing them under the fold of ADMA somehow-this really does need a committee to see how to best move on it, if at all; both clubs need volunteers. and FJDMA is a 501C3, where as ADMA is a 501c4.
I would like to THANK Bridget and Stan Schwafel (a very big THANK YOU) for volunteering to be timers this season, so we have two committed people for the whole season, as well as others who are trained and there for back up.
The club has some very burnt out leaders, and we need some new ideas and volunteers to carry out the club activities. Since we are not having a Symposium this year, that takes away a minimum of $7500 cash from our general account to carry us through the early winter months, so we need some creative and small ideas on bringing in some cash, or some of the races well be in serious jeopardy of being cancelled.
Please feel free to pass this on to others who are not connected to email, and to use this method as a way to pass ideas. BUT remember this does not mean you can not attend our meetings, we need to have people in attendance to make things happen and to be official.
Oh yes, we are trying to find the approved 11-12 race schedule to get it updated on the website (my folder from the annual meeting has disappeared). Mysterious things happen when you leave for a work trip the day after a busiest event! So if anyone has a copy please contact me.
Sincerely,
–
Shannon Erhart
ADMA President
The Alaska Dog Mushers Association would like to announce that the International Sled Dog Symposium will be held biannually starting in 2012. There will be no symposium in 2011, and will from now on be held on even numbered years. After a 23 year run, we feel that this decision will help keep future symposia fresh and create an event not to be missed.
The International Sled Dog Symposium has traditionally coincided with ADMA’s annual auction, our biggest fund-raising event of the year. We will continue working on the annual fund-raising auction and other fun events to keep our club a strong and vital part of the Fairbanks community and the mushing world.
A big thank you goes out to all of the volunteers and participants that have made past symposia a success and we hope to see you back at Pioneer Park on Oct. 12th – 14th, 2012.

The timesheets for today’s first day of the 66th annual ADMA Open North American Championships sleddog races in Fairbanks are now up on the 2010-11 Race Schedule page. Whether you’re going to be at the start or on the trail somewhere, or listening in to the always entertaining live coverage on KFAR 660AM, you can download the timesheet to keep track of the teams’ progress around the trail.
We’ll have some timesheets at the timing board at the start downtown, but sometimes run out, so it’s best to download and print your own copy. If you won’t be downtown, you can check out the Webcam at the Start Line. (It requires installing Real Player.)
I also have a link to the 2009 course map, which is pretty much the same as this year’s trail. (Last year the race started at the musher’s hall.)
SledDogCentral.com will again have live updates on the checkpoint times on all three days.
Enjoy the race!
