ASPA Race Rules

  1. Each participant is responsible for his/her dog(s). This includes before and after the event as well as during the event.
  1. No nippy dogs
  2. No loose dogs
  3. No metal edged skis
  4. We suggest necklines for multiple-dog teams.
  5. Moose and other wildlife have the right of way. Also watch for other trail users including but not limited to: snowmachines, dog teams, mountain bikers, skiers and walkers.

2. The format for the Fun Race competition is to have fun.

  1. Be patient with inexperienced skijorers and dogs.
  2. Offer words of advice and encouragement instead of criticism.
  3. Give teams lining up for the start plenty of room.

3. During the race:

  1. To pass—yell trail before you are ready to pass--- go by on the same side your dog(s) go by on.
  2. Being Passed---Reel in your dog(s) and stay on the same side your dog(s) is on. You may stop, but you don’t need to. Let the Passer get a little bit ahead before you "chase."
  3. Both skiers should be careful with ski poles during passes.
  4. In head-on passing, the person with the fewest dogs should yield trail to the person with the most dogs.
  5. Participants unable to complete the course due to a missed turn or lost dog should notify race officials by the most expedient method. These participants shall yield to all other racers.
  1. After the race:
  1. Take your dog(s) away from the finish area so other teams have room to finish.
  2. Clean up after your dog(s).
