FUN RACE #5, January 13, 2001

Twenty skijorers and 31 dogs competed at the Alaska Skijor and Pulk Associations (ASPA) fifth Fun Run of the season.

Zero degree temperatures resulted in frosty finishing competitors and dogs. This week's event was made even more interesting by a large puddle of slush created by the fire department that required rerouting a small part of the trail at the beginning of the race course.

Cindy Salmon won the 11-mile, three-dog class in 39:49, nearly five minutes faster than the best time recorded last year. George Salmon overcame losing his ski half-way through the 11-mile race to finish second to his wife. Brother and sister Matt and Maria Bray dueled to a first and second place finish in the 5.1-mile, two-dog skijoring class.

ASPA wishes to thank Apocalypse Design, All Weather Sports, and Cheryle Barrett for providing prizes for Fun Run #5, as well as the Friends of Creamers Field for allowing us to use the Creamers Field Farm House.
