Sara Elzey led the field with two first place record setting finishes. Sara with Shadow and Ayla won the 2.7 mile 2-dog race in a season record time of 10:24. Andy Seitz (Avril and Miley) came in second at 10:37. Carrie Barta with Dream and Mojave were third at 11:16.

Sara Elzey and Myst won and set a record in the 1.5 mile 1-dog class with a time of 6:11. Heather Best and Hadley were second at 6:17. Jeff Oatley and Harriet rounded out the top three at 6:28.

Carol Kleckner was also a multiple winner running a Second Chance League dog in each event. Carol with Blackberry and Robin won the 3.6 mile 2-dog class with a time of 12:47. Jennifer Seitz with Ed and Mabel were second at 12:56 and Andy Warwick with Zip and Licorice were a close third at 12:59. Andy lost valuable time on a tangle with another team in the East Field.

Carol Kleckner (Misty and Chanel) set a new season record in the 1.5 mile 2-dog class with a time of 5:11. Don Kiely with Izzi and Raisan were second at 5:45.

In the first running of the 5.6 mile class for this season, Mike Malvick with Ingrid, Billie and Mesa came in first with a time of 22:28 in the 3-dog class. Greg Seitz with Yeller and Yeti were first in the 2-dog class with a distance best time of 21:07. Gail Davidson and Tobi won the 1-dog class with a time of 29.43.

Rick Reznak (Sami, DaMoose and Wings) won the 3.6 mile 3-dog class with a time of 12:44.

Lisa Baraff and Hope won the 3.6 mile 1-dog class in a time of 15:38. John Hallsten with Chipper and Sandra Malvick with Mons tied for second with a time of 15:46.

John Eichelberger and Maggie came in first in the 2.7 mile 1-dog class with a time of 27:04. We think Maggie enjoys the scenery at Creamer's Field.

Andy Warwick and Ship set a season record in the 0.5 mile 1-dog class with a time of 2.38. Tom Lyngholm with Louise were second at 3:04. Ariana Graf and Uma in their first skijor race were third in a time of 3:09

Carol Kleckner with Chanel and Misty improved their speed in the AARP 2-dog division by 2 ½ mph to a speed of 17.36mph. John Hallsten and Chipper led the 1-dog AARP dividion with a speed of 13.7mph.

ASPA thanks trail groomers Peggy Raybeck, Pat DeRuyter and John Hallsten for trail work this week. Volunteers for Fun Race #2 were Toni Hawkins, A.J. Sutton, Clarice Dukeminier, Kristi Downing, Miranda Terwilliger and Pat DeRuyter.

Cold Temperatures and a fast trail resulted in seven season records set in ASPA's Fun Race #3 on Sunday.<\p>

Carol Kleckner with Robin and Galena set the 5.6 Mile 2-dog record with a time of 20:01. Susan Seitz (Ed and Mabel) were second at 20:38. Teresa Hollingsworth (Talisker, Roxette) were third at 25:02.

Gail Davidson (Tobi) broke her own record and won the 5.6 mile 1-dog class with a time of 27:35.

Records were set in both classes of the 3.5 mile event; Andy Seitz (Yeller, Simba) at 11:28 and Jess Ryan (LenaBean) at 13:47 for the 2-dog and 1-dog events. In the 2-dog event Kimberlee Beckmen (Iris, Terri) and Janet Smith (Skeeter, Buckwheat) were second and third respectively with times of 12:19 and 12:51. In the 1-dog event Joel Cladouhos (Fischer) was second at 16:40 and Lisa Baraff (Hope) was third at 18:33

Rick Reznak (Sami, Wings, DaMoose) set a 3-dog season record in the 2.7 mile event with a time of 10:17. Sara Elzey (Shadow, Ayla) won the 2-dog class with Iris Wood (Midnight, Blue) second at 12:11 and Marya Lewanski (Blaze, Tiger) third at 13:43.

John Hallsten (Chipper) set a record in the 2.7 mile 1-dog class with a winning time of 12:18.

Sara Elzey won her second event of the day with Myst and Loon in the 1.5 mile 2-dog class. Her time was 5:24. Don Kiely (Beans, Raisin) was second at 5:42 and Sunnifa Deehr (Tor, Alpha) was third at 6:25.

Ted Wy (Ty) set a new record in the 1.5 mile 1-dog class with a time of 6:02. David French (Boone) and Heather Best (Hadley) rounded out the top three with times of 6:51 and 7:08.

The closest race of the day was in the new event, the .5 mile Old Dog Sprint. Kimberlee Beckmen (Jitterbug, 11 and Speedy, 12) tied Janet Smith (Lucy, age 12) with a time of 2:19. Jesse Warwick (Shep, 11) were second at 3:29 and Clarice Dukeminier (Yukon, 14 and Kanuti, 11) was third at 3:55.

In the AARP (People) 2-dog division Carol Kleckner (Robin, Galena) was first at 16.78mph. John Hallsten (Chipper) was first in the AARP 1-dog division at 13.17mph.

Results for January 23, 2005

Gorgeous weather welcomed skijorers back to the races after more than a month off. Due to cold weather ASPA’s Fun Race #5 coincided with the rescheduling of ADMA’s Annamaet Challenge Series Race #4. This forced many of the competitors to race at the Dog Musher’s Hall, then drive across town to compete in ASPA’s event at Creamer’s Field. Many of these athletes proved true endurance by placing well in both events.

Andy Seitz (Ed, Mabel and Yeller) won the 3.6 mile three-dog class in 11:30 after placing second in ADMA’s 5.9 mile two-dog class. Kriya Dunlap (Oban, Brahma) placed first in the 3.6 mile two-dog class with a time of 11:48. Carol Kleckner started her morning up at the Dog Musher’s Hall by winning the 5.9 miles three-dog skijoring class, she then went on to take second place in the 5.9 mile 4-dog sled class. Carol (Pippi, Casper) finished second in her THIRD race of the day, finishing ASPA’s 3.6 mile two-dog event in 12:22. Mike Malvick (Billie, Mesa) rounded out the top three finishers at Creamer’s Field, posting a time of 13:11. Mike is another one of ASPA’s dedicated and talented competitors; earlier Sunday morning he placed second in ADMA’s 5.9 mile three-dog class. Chad Carroll (Tico) won the 3.6 mile one-dog event in 14:19 dropping almost 30 seconds from his previous best time. Molly Yazwinski (Chili) came in second in 18:02, followed by third place finisher, Jim Altherr (Sophie) with a time of 21:29.

The 2.7 mile two-dog class boasted 12 competitors, making it the largest class ASPA has seen in at least three years. Sara Elzey (Shadow, Ayla) were the first of the multitudes to cross the finish line, doing so in 11:08. Andy Warwick (Zip, Licorice) was second in 11:27. He was also competing in his second race of the day. Andy placed fourth in ADMA’s 5.9 mile two dog skijoring class. Tone Deehr (Hobbes, Socrates) came across the line a mere 8 seconds later, to post her third place finish in 11:35. Marya Lewanski (Blaze, Nellie) was right on her heels to claim a fourth place in 11:46. Sara Tabbert (Pablo) won the 2.7 mile one-dog class in 15:40. Diann Darnall (Nikki) placed second in 17:39.

In the 1.5 mile two-dog class Sara Elzey (Misty, Millie) won her second ASPA race of the day in 5:57. Ted Wu (Lucey, Ty) were right on her heels to place second in 6:17. Pam Groves finished third in 12:57 with her mismatched team of Lily (about 1 foot tall) and Frieda (about 2 and a half feet tall). At their first ASPA event of the year, Lily and Frieda always draw smiles from volunteers. Lily pulls with the heart of an Alaskan sled dog in her homemade harness.

David French (Boone) placed first in the 1.5 mile one-dog class, crossing the finish line in 7:01. Tone Deehr (Leap) placed second in her second ASPA event of the day, finishing in 7:79. In the 0.5 mile Old Dog class, participants take their older dogs (10 years and over) around the half mile loop. Depending on the dog, this may be a run or a stroll, but either way, those dogs sure enjoy getting out and reliving their “glory days”. Times are adjusted by a handicap calculated by the dog’s age. Andy Warwick and Shep took first place in 2:40, beating their previous time by several seconds. Diann Darnall and Juba also participated, placing second in 6:28.
