·         New Record for the trip into Lee’s cabin.  Broke record of 22:35 by Jim Herriges from 2001

Mile 28 Elliot Highway trailhead was minus 12 degrees, no wind and beautiful sunshine for the start of the 2005 ASPA Lee’s Cabin Race.

The new format this year resulted in a 7 mile race into Lee’s Cabin with participants returning to the trailhead on their own.

An excellent trail contributed to the fast times as Jim Herriges with Lily and Lena set a new course record (beating his own 2001 record by 7 seconds) with a time of 22:28.  The next three competitors were all faster then the previous second fastest time.

Cindy Salmon with Chinook, Coho and Sockeye came in second at 23:22.  Kriya Dunlap with Oban and Brahma were just 10 seconds back at 23:32.  Mike Malvick with Corky, Billie and Mons rounded out the top four at 24:50.

Chad Carroll with Tico was the fastest one-dog team at 33:31.

Thanks to the volunteers, Pat DeRuyter, race director, starter and trail sweep.  Clarice Dukeminier, Chili and timer, Peggy Raybeck, cookies, bread and timer, Amy Carroll dog handler and photographer and Cindy Salmon for the heated camper to register for the race.
