Seven skijorers tested themselves and their dogs in the Alaska Skijoring and Pulk Association's inaugural Moose Creek Cabin Race, held on the well groomed trails of BLM's White Mountains National Recreation Area. They completed a challenging 16 mile run into the Moose Creek Cabin (warmed by Bill Merchant, who also provided lunch), where they took a two hour break, then headed back to the 28 Mile parking area. Race coordinator Phil Russell picked a course over terrain that seemed to have more ups than downs, both going and heading back to the Elliot.
Don Kelley smoked the course in the three dog class, winning both legs with a total time of 2:47:50. In the two dog class Fred Markoff made a three minute lead on the ingoing leg stand, although it was cut to a margin of less than a minute by Ken Severin on the outgoing leg.
