The Alaska Skijor and Pulk Association Fun Race #2 was held at
Creamer's Field on Saturday November 28, 1998. Sixteen skiers and 25 dogs
participated in the first event of the season. (Race #1 was postponed due to poor
snow conditions.)
Robert Drozda (Pikle & Willow) edged Reto Curti (Bear & Biscuit) by 2 seconds in
the hotly contested 2 dog 3 mile class. Sara Elzey (shadow) won the 1 dog 3 mile
class. And Jerry Troupe (Chena) won the 1 dog 1 mile class. There were
many exciting finishes with two teams finishing within 5 seconds of each
other on three occasions.
Thank you to Mark Ross and Jim Logan for the excellent
job of
grooming the trail with so little snow to work with. Thanks to Pat
DeRuyter and Cheryle Barrett for registration, starting and
timing and
Carol Kleckner for dog handling. A special thanks to Quicksilver
