Alaska Skijoring and Pulk Association Fun Race #5 was held at Creamer's Field on Sunday March 7, 1999. Thirty-five dogs and 17 people participated on a sunny but cool day. The races started in the following order: 10 mile, 6.2 mile, 5.1 mile and 3.4 mile. This order provided exciting finishes of 4 racers in an 11 second time span and another 4 racers within 1 minute.
Cindy Salmon (Benny, Happy and Condor) won the 10 mile race in a time of 42:40. George Salmon (Tex, Jets and June) was second with a time of 47:20.
Linda Gustafson (Bandit and Yukon) won the 6.2 mile race with a time of 32:57. Clarice Dukeminier (Kanuti and Crisco) was second in 33:54.
Chris Coe (Cork and Rascal) took a wrong turn but finished a 4 mile race in 18.33.
Jim Herriges (Roby) won the 5.1 mile race in 25.11. Julie Rowland (Suka & Brio) finished second with a time of 28:48.
George Salmon (Pumpkin and Nome) won the 3.4 mile two dog class in a time of 13:20. Cindy Salmon (Tagish and Pike) was second by only 9 seconds.
Thomas McDonough (Mojo) won the 1 dog 3.4 mile race with a time of 16.28. Gar Pessel (Misty) was second with a time of 21:10. Thank you to Pat DeRuyter (Starting), Roxy Port (registration, timing and dog handling), Chris Terzi (dog handling), and Jim Logan (opening the farmhouse and dog handling). The last fun race of the year is scheduled for March 27 at Creamer's Field; registration is at 11am and racing at 11:30am. There will be a pot luck lunch and ASPA general membership meeting following the race.
